Stylecraft Jeanie Yarn Review

I was very pleased to be asked to review the new Jeanie range of yarns from Stylecraft.

I have been playing with this yarn for a while now and have a couple of patterns coming out in the next week inspired by the western feel this yarn inspires. Read on for my thoughts on this new yarn range.

My first thought upon receiving the yarn was “Jeani is our family name!” Every female in our family has the name of Jeanie named for my Grandmother. My mother, myself and my daughter all instantly felt a link to this yarn due to the name!

I really hoped it would match up to the excitement the name conjured for our family.

My second thought was the texture is amazing. For a cotton blend, based around the traditional denim colourways, this is a really soft yarn.

It’s like working with velvet!

Cotton yarns can feel quite harsh when you are working them but these are soft, fuzzy and warm feeling yarns. They come in aran weight and screamed cables to me so I set to work to test out some new cable designs.

Working in the round with a circular needle the yarn played well, didn’t snag or split and gave a fab warm texture to the hat. I really like the subtle white colour which appears through the yarn, similar to the inside vs outside of your favorite pair of jeans.

During the knitting of the hat I both tinked and frogged several times and the yarn kept its integrity. I was able to use and reuse the yarn with no splitting issues at all.

Once I had completed a basic cable hat I thought I would see how the colours worked together with a cowl. Here’s a part way through shot to show how beautifully these tones play together.

I’m really impressed with this collection of four denim inspired colours and highly recommend them. I will be publishing a couple of patterns next week for a hat and two western inspired styles of cowl and a scarf.

As a bonus Jeanie’s cotton acrylic blend means that it is soft to the touch and it can be machine washed and tumble dried.
